From the route-makers of Wandelgids Brabant
During this easy but varied walk across the Strijbeekse Heide, you walk along field paths and through heathland to the fen Zwarte Goor. Along forest edges and through heathland you'll reach the lovely Rondven and via forest paths you'll walk to the beautifully situated Kruisvijver. After a good part through the woods, you walk across the heathland along the Langven and via surprising grass paths you walk back to the starting point. In August the purple heather blooms and after a dry summer the shallow fens can be dry. The route is beautiful any time of year.
Recuperating from the walk is excellent on the terrace or in the café at Toontje Schoen. This monumental farm has picturesque views of the rural outskirts of Chaam. Here you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside and delicious local products: various types of beer, farmhouse ice cream from Schijf, raspberry wine from Molenschot and coffee from Hoogstraten. Another must is Toontjes koek, a crispy oatmeal cake with delicious spices and pieces of chocolate.
