As if time has stood still in this place: the Strijbeekse Heide is an authentic piece of nature, located between the Strijbeekse and Chaamse Beek rivers, near the Belgian border. The combination of heathland, forests and fens means that the nature here has a special flora and fauna. We recommend visiting reserve Goudberg, which consists of a ring fen (fen with peat islands) and the Langven and Zwart Goor pools. In frosty weather, this makes for very Dutch pictures. You can also explore this unique area on foot or by bike.
Tip: Choose the smugglers’ trail (8 km) andfollow in the footsteps of the smugglers. In August, the heather turns purple, although a walk around the island in Goudberg has a magical feel to it whatever the season.
