The Regte Heide

Together with the Riels Hoefke, Halve Maan, Ooijevaarsnest and Nieuwkerk, the Regte Heide forms a contiguous nature reserve of about 876 hectares. It consists of heathland, a swampy stream valley, deciduous and coniferous forests and runs from the municipality of Goirle to the border with Belgium. As the stream valley of the Leij cuts through an extensive heath and sand drift area, you will find large differences in altitude by Dutch standards. Sometimes with a difference of up to five metres! The undamaged transition from heathland to stream valley gives rise to exceptional vegetation, such as bell gentian. Also fascinating are the seven burial mounds from the Early Bronze Age, which are still clearly visible.
