Remembrance route municipality of Gilze and Rijen

The municipality of Gilze and Rijen was hit hard during World War II. Traces of this, such as old bunkers and shelters, are still visible. Drastic events took place at various locations, which should never be forgotten. As a lasting reminder, commemorative signs have been placed at these places, developed by the municipality of Gilze and Rijen in cooperation with Heemkring Molenheide. The listening posts in Gilze, Rijen and Hulten, part of the Liberation Route Europe, also keep war history alive. This year (2024) marks the eightieth anniversary of the liberation of the municipality of Gilze and Rijen by the Poles and the British. To commemorate this, a commemorative route has been created, which leads you past all twenty-four commemorative signs, three Liberation listening posts and two thanksgiving chapels. You can start the route at any point. There is a short and longer variant (extra loop of about 5 km) of the route.
