We owe our region's beautiful landscape in part to its proximity to the Kempen region. Alphen, Riel and Goirle, for instance, lie in the foothills of this sandy area, which stretches on both sides of the Belgian-Dutch border. Due to the sandy soil, you will find heathlands as well as meandering streams, forests and even swamps.
The impressive Kempen Estates, with a rich cultural history, together cover a contiguous nature area of over 4,000 hectares. You can wander around for days on foot, by bike or on horseback, sometimes sneaking across the border along the way.
