The Gils Museum

In recent years, 't Gils Museum arose in the backyard of Huub and Marlies Quirijnen, at Oranjestraat 31. For decades, (building) materials and ornaments were collected and saved from demolition. Each object has been lovingly incorporated into the museum and has its own story.

Gilze dream
Huub and Marlies had long cherished their dream of building a museum, keeping the history and customs of Gilze alive. "We want to show the past, but above all convey our passion and enthusiasm. This in an accessible way; everyone - young and old - is welcome to 't Gils Museum!"

Appearance of the past
The museum was built using traditional building methods, constructions and collected materials. All these historical materials have their own story and have been given a second, third and sometimes even fourth life in 't Gils Museum. Think of bricks, window frames, doors, etc. from café de Tip, the tanning and shoe industry, gingerbread factory Smolders, Villa Mol, the brick factory and the church. Bricks were even used in which the brickmaker's fingers are still visible.

Theatre in the pocket
The space is suitable for performances at living room level. There are ideas for art and old craft workshops, while maintaining its low-threshold character. Huub and Marlies: "We don't have to live from it. After all, a lot we get. If it really becomes necessary to maintain the museum, we will start asking for a small (voluntary) contribution."
