Bird walk Dorst forestry
Theme: early birds as part of National Bird Week
Enjoying dawn and birdsong
National Bird Week
From 10 to 18 May 2025, Vogelbescherming Nederland is organising the National Bird Week for the fourteenth time. During this period, various organisations will offer excursions all over the country. The activities are suitable for young and old, for (beginning) birders and other nature lovers.
Dorst forestry
For centuries, the area near Dorst was a sparse heathland and drifting sand area. At the end of the 19th century, the Forestry Commission started planting trees to capture the sand. It is now a beautiful nature area with drifting sand dunes, woods and water features. This variation in the landscape makes the area attractive to many different types of birds.
Cooperation bird working group and IVN walking group
The bird working group and the walks working group of IVN Mark en Donge join forces to make a beautiful walk. Experienced birdwatchers recognise their flying friends by their song or call and can tell a lot about them. The guides of the walks working group will pay attention to trees, plants and other animals we encounter.
Tips
Wear clothing in muted colours and wear good walking shoes. Take something to eat and drink with you. Binoculars will help you enjoy the birds even more.
Registration
Registration for this walk is compulsory and can be done here. Registration is possible until the day of the walk.
