IVN Winter Walk Pigeon Tower
On Sunday 10 December, the guides of IVN Mark & Donge will walk through the Dove Tower nature reserve southwest of Dongen. The area is owned by Staatsbosbeheer. Since 2004, de Duiventoren has housed a sandstone artwork depicting a pigeon tower. It is a gift from the Culture Fund to Staatsbosbeheer.
The Dove Tower is mainly a forest area, but there are also pools and water features in several places. The soil is rather marshy and peaty in some parts. Part of it is called the Moerken, an area where peat was excavated. The Forestry Commission planted the shifting dunes in the area at the beginning of the 20th century to retain the sand. The drifting sands in the northeast corner of the area are called Woeste Zee. The forest area consists partly of a beech forest. There are parts with mixed vegetation and with conifers and American oaks.
Registration for this walk is compulsory and can be done via the button below. After registration, you will receive information about the departure point. The walk starts at 13:30 and lasts one and a half to two hours. Join the walk!
