Get your fill on a walk past wondrous contemporary sculptures in the Oude Warande. The 12th edition of Lustwarande, with the theme: Godhead - Idols in times of crises, kicks off.
GODHEAD - IDOLS IN TIMES OF CRISES
The idea for GODHEAD came about as a reflection on current events. With statues of historically charged figures being smeared with paint and removed from squares in the wake of demonstrations against racism in the US and Europe, with Putin being knocked off his pedestal by a united West and, at the same time, positioning himself as even more untouchable in his own country, a renewed reflection on the concept of idol, in a broad sense, is in order.
GODHEAD - IDOLS IN TIMES OF CRISIS explores the power of contemporary figurative and abstract sculpture as idols in a dejected world by presenting a group of works that refer to the tradition of devotional sculpture, the statue, the monument, the totem the amulet and the talisman.
GODHEAD does not reach for solutions but offers solace and tries to make the contemporary viewer aware of the power of the idol.
Participating in GODHEAD are: Alma Allen (US), Evgeny Antufiev (RU), Marieke Bolhuis (NL), Gisela Colón (US), Kim Dacres (US), Hans Josephsohn (CH), Susanne Ring (DE), Lukas Schmenger (DE), Henk Visch (NL) and Not Vital (CH).
Russian artist Evgeny Antufiev was to create a new work on location especially for GODHEAD. The war prevented him from leaving Russia. A recent existing work by this artist will now be shown, connecting all art and cultures. What that is, we will keep a secret for now.
The opening of GODHEAD is on Sunday 26 June from 2pm-6pm. Most of the participating artists will be present. Everyone is welcome to attend. Save the date!
When: Open daily from sunrise to sunset, from 26 June - 2 October 2022.
