Lustwarande 2026 - MATERIAL WORLDS
14 June to 27 September
In 2026, it's party time. Lustwarande will be twenty-five years old. From 14 June to 27 September, the fifteenth edition of Lustwarande will take place: MATERIAL WORLDS. An anniversary exhibition that takes visitors into a world of material, form and imagination. Be surprised, amazed and immersed. The opening is on Sunday 14 June at 15.00. (Early bird) tickets are available here.
Contemporary art reflects pressing social issues such as climate change, ecological justice, post-colonialism, identity and the increasing influence of technology and artificial intelligence. At the same time, there is a striking reassessment of materiality, craft and physical making processes within the visual arts.
Materials such as wool, felt, silk, rubber, clay, natural stone and wood currently occupy a prominent place within art, architecture and design. What was long considered old-fashioned is now considered innovative and meaningful. Artists combine these materials with local crafts, traditions and ancestral knowledge. Indigenous values are recognised again. In the process, sustainable material processes are explored and applied, sometimes in combination with contemporary computer-based techniques. This leads to a wide range of sculptural approaches.
