80 Years of Freedom is commemorated and celebrated throughout the province of North Brabant. With the theme Connection, we will literally dwell on all the bridges in the province that played an important role in the war and liberation. As our municipality has no real bridges, we choose to create an imaginary bridge with the town of Gerolstein in the German Eifel region.

At our invitation, the mayor and some members of the 'Partnerschaftverein' Gerolstein will come to Gilze and Rijen on Saturday 19 October 2024. After a reception at the town hall, some projects in our municipality will be visited in the afternoon. In the evening, the delegation will attend the liberation concert at the Air Base.

On Sunday 20 October 2024 at 10:00 am, the German delegation will lay a wreath at the war memorial at the cemetery in Gilze. Interested parties can attend.
