IVN Guided tour Moerle Estate (Schaapsgoor)
Moerle Estate is an 8-hectare natural gem in Schaapsgoor, alongside the Gilzerbaan (Tilburg). The private owner manages it with care and a strong focus on enhancing biodiversity. For example, he has planted a considerable number of native deciduous trees and had an old, silted-up forest pool to be dredged out again to create a larger pond, which has already been discovered by tree frogs and crested newts and around which the typical vegetation of the wet heathland is gradually returning.
Moerle also offers something unique in terms of cultural history: a replica (2018) of the wooden chapel, dedicated to ‘Our Lady of the Good Dive’, which was built in 1943 to a design by Jos. Bedaux by students who were in hiding on the estate during the war.
Practical information:
