IVN Guided tour Moerle Estate (Schaapsgoor)
Moerle estate is an 8-hectare natural gem in Schaapsgoor, along Gilzerbaan (Tilburg). The private owner manages it with care and with great attention to increasing biodiversity. For instance, he has replanted a large number of native deciduous trees and had an old, degraded forest pool excavated again to create a larger pond, which has already been discovered by the tree frog and the crested newt and around which the typical vegetation of the humid heathlands is also gradually returning.
Moerle also offers something unique in terms of cultural history: a recreated copy (2018) of the small wooden chapel dedicated to "Our Lady of the Good Dive", built in 1943 to a design by Jos. Bedaux was built by students who were in hiding on the estate during the war.
