IVN Nature Walk - Valkenberg and Hondsdonk
Theme: Ancient forests and spring flora
Barons, baronesses and noblewomen strutted along the paved central path; servants were expected to move via the side aisles. You may walk both paths as well as the many, much smaller, densely vegetated ones that wind through the picturesque estates of Hondsdonk and Valkenberg.
Characteristics
A characteristic feature of country estates is the alternation of open and closed landscape. We therefore find mixed forest plots, fields and meadows, beech and oak lanes next to each other. Due to differences in height and soil conditions, there are dry and wet areas. Thanks to the variation in vegetation and the many old trees, it is also a bird-rich area with many hole-breeders. A few streams run through the area. These form an extensive, hand-shaped system of meandering watercourses that gradually converge between Chaam and Ulvenhout and finally flow into the Mark as Chaamse beek.
Practical info
The distance and pace is higher than many other IVN activities. In 3 to 3.5 hours you will cover about 10 kilometres. So make sure you have good, waterproof shoes and also bring something to drink.
Registration is compulsory, which can be done here. After registration, you will receive information about the departure point. You can register until the day of the walk. If the maximum number of registrations is reached, the link will no longer work and the registration form will not be opened.
