On Friday evening 5 June, we will walk in the dark with IVN's nature guides on the theme "nocturnal sounds in the woods". When we start our walk, the sun is almost setting. As darkness falls, we will walk through the woods, over drifting dunes and across moors near the Seterse bergen. We will see less and less during our walk, but hopefully we will hear things. Several animals do not show themselves during the day; they only become active after dark. Hedgehogs sleep when it is light, but in the evening and at night they scavenge for their food. Bats hunt for moths at night. Mice emerge, which owls then like to get at. Foxes, too, are especially active when people are sleeping. Sometimes they can then let out a heartrending screech. The most unusual nocturnal animal is the nightjar. This animal spends the winter in southern Africa and travels 11,000 km in March to reach the Netherlands. Here it breeds on moors and sand drifts. During the day, it rests on a branch and is virtually invisible due to its camouflage. At night, it flies around silently catching insects. While doing so, however, it can make a very special, rattling sound. It is a unique experience to hear and see this mysterious bird. As we have to pay a permit for a walk after sunset, we will have to ask for a contribution of 5 euros from participants. Please bring exact change. It is wise to wear covering clothes due to mosquitoes and ticks.

Registration for the walk is compulsory and can be done until the day of the walk. A separate registration form must be filled in per person. The walk starts at 21:30 and lasts until approximately 23:00/23:30.
