Exhibition at the Steenfabriek in Gilze

Saturday 18 June 2022 to Sunday 19 June 2022
12:00 - 17:00
De Steenfabriek, Steenfabriek 7, Gilze

This exhibition at the beautiful location in the Brickworks is not to be missed. Four people with a passion show their work in three disciplines: sculpture, painting and fly-fishing.

John Boekema from Baarle Nassau initiated this exhibition. A talented sculptor himself, John loves to make a creation from alabaster, serpentine or soapstone. It always turns out differently from what he envisages. He lets the new shapes emerge, so to speak. He prefers to make abstract sculptures. Recently, he has enjoyed chipping, filing and polishing. His many new works are beautifully displayed in the Stone Factory space. John invited three more fellow artists to exhibit at the Steenfabriek in Gilze.

Maaike Schunck, living in Lage Mierde, always loved being busy with her hands. Since settling in Brabant, she started painting at the academy. That felt like coming home. Now, some 20 years on, she has specialised in portraiture. She was also once featured in the TV programme Pleasure & Passion at RTL4. At this exhibition, there is also a corner decorated with paintings, which tells the special story of her 14-year-old daughter Muze who underwent a stem cell transplant. Maaike uses mixed media with acrylic or oil paint for her backgrounds. Colour, composition and movement are key. In 2013, she won the culture prize of the municipality of Reusel-De Mierden.

The second painter who will present her work is Suzanne Grem from Ravenstein. She too has been painting for over 20 years. Her passion lies in travelling and she loves to immerse herself in other cultures. On those trips to various beautiful places around the world, she takes photos that she later turns into a painting, her travel stories in oil paint. Her aim is to use colour and brushstroke to depict a feeling. This in turn allows you as a viewer to travel with her.

And then there is Nico Heukels' passion; fly fishing. This passion has two sides. Catching fish with imitation flies and making these flies. For this, he uses old English patterns. Tying these flies is an art and he lovingly occupies himself with this almost daily. During the exhibition, he will also give a demonstration and tell you more about this.

In short, reason enough to come to the Steenfabriek in Gilze in the weekend of 18 and 19 June or 25 and 26 June between 12.00 and 17.00!
