History Month is the largest history event in the Netherlands. Hundreds of museums and other cultural organisations organise countless and varied activities throughout the month. Museum De Looierij is also taking part. This year’s theme is ‘At Work’. During the introductory tour on Sunday 24 October at 2.00 pm at Museum De Looierij, you’ll hear and see what it was like to work in the leather industry in Dongen. For many years, the leather industry was by far the largest employer in our village. You could tell this, for example, by the distinctive smell in the air in Dongen. But what were working conditions like in the tanneries and shoemaker’s workshops, and what impact did the leather industry have on social life in Dongen?

The introductory tour is free upon presentation of a valid admission ticket to the Tannery.
The tour lasts approximately 1 hour.
