Archaeological scavenger hunt through Alphen
From Friday 18 June to Sunday 20 June are National Archaeology Days. Activities will be organised all over the country to bring the past to life. In our region, on these days you can go on an adventurous treasure hunt through the very old Brabant village of Alphen. Sometimes there is more under your feet than you think. The archaeological treasure hunt is an activity for young and old, but especially suitable for children, who can walk the trail in a group or with their parents, for example. You can pick up the free text booklet at the service counter of the PLUS supermarket in Alphen (Willibrordplein 3). On your own, following the directions in the booklet, you walk a route of about an hour (just under 4 km). You start at the entrance of the PLUS supermarket and the route ends nearby, at the Oudheidkundig Streekmuseum. As an archaeological sleuth, will you manage to collect the right code letters? As a reward, you can try to pick up something from the museum's garden with the metal detector. That should probably work too!
Note: The museum will be open only on Sunday afternoon 20 June 2021 from 1.30-4.30pm. Only then can you have your code checked and get to work with the metal detector as a reward. The archaeological scavenger hunt is organised by the archaeological working group of Heemkundekring Carel de Roy.
