Smokkelroute Strijbeek

There used to be plenty of smuggling in the border region. It is not difficult to imagine the grim and mysterious atmosphere of yesteryear. In Strijbeek, the old smokkelroute of yesteryear is now open as a hiking trail. This 8 km walk runs from the Goudbergven to the Belgian nature reserve Den Elsakker and back to the Strijbeekse Heide, towards the fen Zwarte Goor and the Langven. The walk takes you past high sand ridges, heathland and flying pines. It is as if nature has stood still in this place; an authentic piece of Brabant nature. On the way, you pass the 'disappeared' boundary post 216b and an artificial nesting place for bees, plus the Sacred Heart chapel.

Starting point: De Smokkelaar, Goudbergseweg 8, Strijbeek
