The Wouwervallei

The Wouwervallei between Gilze and Rijen and Breda will be given a natural layout. This will improve the habitat of various animals (such as the barn and little owl, the tree frog) and various plants. Adaptation to the changing climate is also an important part: if water is retained longer in the Wouwervallei, there will be less flooding in Bavel and Breda. After all, the Gilzewouwerbeek eventually flows into the Mark via the Molenleij and the canals. Water can then also be retained in the Wouwervallei to bridge dry periods in the surrounding areas. Nature development will also make the area more attractive for recreation. The municipality of Breda has already developed part of the Wouwervallei as a nature reserve in 2012. Now a nice ecological connecting zone can be created with this part of the Wouwervallei.

This footpath is 1,800 m long and takes you across the raspberry fields of Van der Avoird Trayplant and forms part of the Chaam-Rijen stage of the HONP (2.0) and is well worth a walk!
