Historic Trade Route: 'Join the Blackmakers on their robber's trail'

Step into the world of the Historic Trade Route and cycle 52 kilometres along in the story of the brigands. Using the trail finder app, you can easily follow the route and not miss a key moment in Breda's agricultural hinterland and wander through the surrounding villages. We had the perfect start to this cycle route with a friendly welcome and a delicious lunch at Café de Hooikar, where you really can't leave without an ice cream! You then cycle along the history of the Geuzenpad, the Chaamse Beken and the Eiken Mik. If you used to set off from Breda to Maastricht with your precious merchandise, you knew: you don't want to come across these highwaymen. On this junction route, you will also find Grand Café Fabels, which is an absolute must if you want to enjoy a drink with Brabant-style conviviality.

Starting and finishing points of this route include De Hooikar in Gilze. Where you can enjoy delicious lunch dishes and where you really can't leave without a delicious ice cream. There are various catering establishments on the route; we stopped at Grand Café Fabels, an absolute must if you like good drinks and cosy Burgundian get-togethers!
