'Autumn' is a comic yet moving play that shows that getting older also brings beautiful and precious moments. The play shows how ageing has an impact on memory, the body and the relationship between two people.

We see an elderly couple who spend a week's holiday at the same summer cottage every year. There they reminisce about their almost 50-year marriage. But Herman's memory is increasingly failing him. It is clear that his incipient dementia is not easy even for his caring and loving Pauline.

Antoinette van der Velde and John Schneider play the roles of the married couple and, with their acting and humour, manage to convey a sensitive subject to the audience in a light and accessible way.

Playing 'Herfst' for care and welfare organisations, among others, has taken on an extra dimension for actors. They notice how important and valuable it is to use theatre to pay attention to topics such as old age and dementia and to make them discussable.
