Photos and AV series from around the world on 27 March at CC de Boodschap

Several hundred photographs taken by enthusiasts, with a passion for photography worldwide, will be on display at the 11th Rainbow Challenge Rijen on Sunday 27 March in CC the Message in Rijen. Photographs will be shown on a large screen in the theatre hall. As supporting programme will also feature a selection from the best av-series from the past two years, submitted for the Challenge 321.

Rainbow Challenge

The Rainbow Challenge produced beautiful, and very varied images. From the northern lights in Norway, we travel to the interior of southern Africa and from there to Buddhist monks in the Far East. But Dutch landscapes also pass by, the likes of which we don't often see. Creators come from Vietnam, South Africa, Indonesia, Canada and many other countries. Photographers from closer to home also submitted entries for this competition: from Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands, or to stay even closer to home from Brabant and from our own municipality of Gilze and Rijen.

Every two years, the Rijen photo club FA-Rijen organises the Rainbow Challenge as part of the Holland International Image Circuit, a collaboration of five Dutch photo clubs.

The Holland Circuit, as it is called for short, is part of an international system of competitions organised all over the world. This is done under the banner of FIAP, the Fédération Internationale de l'Art Photographique. Photographers submit entries for these competitions to gain recognition for their photography. Those who gain enough acceptances at these competitions receive a FIAP award, and several FA-Rijen photographers have won such an award in recent years.

For the Holland Circuit this time around 6,000 images were submitted by nearly 600 photographers, from 54 different countries. Entries could be made for the categories 'colour open', 'monochrome open' and 'travel photography'. Judging took place online due to coronama restrictions. Each of the 15 judges judged the images at home. The final awarding of prizes was done jointly in a Zoom meeting. A special experience for all judges, but also for the organisation.

Challenge 321

On 27 March, however, not only photos will be on show. As a supporting act, a selection of the best audiovisual series of the past two years, submitted to the major international av competition Challenge 321, will be shown. The 'challenge' for the authors in this competition is to convey their story to the viewer in a maximum of 3 minutes and 21 seconds. The entries are judged by around 25 photography clubs from various countries and continents. FA-Rijen is one of these photo clubs. Some members of FA-Rijen are enthusiastic av-makers themselves and have received international awards for this. Because of the corona pandemic, the series have not been shown before.

Free admission

Both presentations are free of charge and everyone is welcome to attend at CC de Boodschap, Nassaulaan 62 in Rijen. The av presentation of the series from the 321-Challenge starts at 13:00, followed at 14:00 by the presentation of the accepted images from the 11th Rainbow Challenge Rijen. The award ceremony and presentation of the winning images will start at 15:30.

One of the prize winners is the photo by: Su Chi Chen from Taiwan, titled Brother and sister (see above)
