A mysterious child’s shoe in a Dongen well

In 2016, amateur archaeologists from the De Heerlyckheit Dongen local history society excavated a sod pit on Breedstraat. This investigation mainly raises questions – questions that take us back to the late eighteenth century and the inhabitants of a simple little farmhouse. Answers that will eventually emerge thanks to experimental archaeological research carried out by orthopaedic shoemaker Jos Baijens. This evening, Ranko Hamelinck and Jos Baijens will discuss the research and its findings in detail. You’ll also learn a great deal about the shoemaking trade, which grew into an industry in Dongen.
