IVN urban plant walk in Spoorpark, Breda, on 4 September

Friday 4 September 2026
13:30 - 17:00
Spoorpark Breda

Urban botany walk in the Spoorpark in Breda. The walk, led by IVN guides, starts at 1.30 pm. The theme for the afternoon is: exploring along the railway line: a hidden world. The walk starts in Breda’s station district. Behind the courthouse lies a special spot: an urban garden on top of a multi-storey car park. This garden was laid out in 2018 and covers an area of approximately 6,000 square metres. The design features robust materials, such as Corten steel and gravel. This complements the railway line running alongside it. The garden has wide paths and is easily accessible to wheelchair users. It can be easily reached via a lift on Stationslaan. Visitors are greeted by flowering plants as they enter. The garden is home to various species of trees and plants, such as birch, black locust and Scots pine. There are also plenty of flowers to see. Some are native, whilst others come from further afield. As the plants flower at different times, there is always something beautiful to see. During the walk, participants learn more about the plants and animals in the garden. Many plants attract bees, bumblebees and other insects. An insect hotel has even been installed. The guide will point out which flowers are currently in bloom, such as the Macedonian meadow crown or the hairy willowherb. Anyone who loves nature and urban green spaces is welcome to join the walk and discover this hidden gem of Breda.

Registration for the walk is required and is open until the day of the walk. Once you have registered, you will receive details of the meeting point. Further information and the registration form can be found on the IVN Mark en Donge website under ‘Activities’. The walk starts at 1.30 pm and lasts until around 3.00–3.30 pm.
